A toy piano, forgotten and then found. Made in 4 weeks part-time.
For my second portfolio piece I wanted to show my skills in realistic texturing and modeling. The intention for this prop was to be an item you could pick up and rotate in game to find clues. I looked a lot at photos and videos for reference during the process. I wanted to stay very close to the photo references!
The low poly was made in Maya. I did the high poly in ZBrush and sculpted in some of the wood damage. I then baked and textured in Substance Painter with a combination of handpainting, my own photo textures and from Sketchup Texture Club. I also used a plywood material from Quixel Megascans and a variety of alphas from creators here at Artstation. For the stickers I wanted to add a bit of history and personality so I got a scan of some old soda bottle labels that my great grandfather and his brother had used.
A huge thanks to everyone at TGA, friends and family who have given me feedback and support!
Rendered in Unreal Engine 5 with additional models from Quixel Bridge.
Showing part of my texturing process! I used a combo of painting, alphas, materials and photo textures.
